Over the past five months, I have been hard at work developing a cohesive collection of mixed media pieces. With the goal of securing gallery representation this year, I set out to complete several large scale works that could be presented together as a cohesive series.
I have finished eight large pieces over the past few months, all of which are currently drying and will be ready for varnish soon. Each piece was created by first collaging antique ephemera, such as National Geographic magazines, postcards, letters, and sheet music, onto the surface. Oil paint is then applied using a glazing technique, allowing the underlying imagery and textures to remain visible. History, folklore and personal narratives are all central themes throughout this collection.
